Sumitomo Electric Carbide’s 90-degree inserts for the company’s GND grooving toolholders are said to be well suited for grooving narrow parts and facing in OD and ID applications that require unique approaches due to interference.
Application examples for the insert are engine discs for aerospace, turbine housings and combustion cases. The design of the inserts prevent pullout for specific applications. The end shape of the insert is offered in different forms based on application needs — square, full radius with a chamfer or others based on need. The blade width of the insert is available in 0.197" (5 mm) or less sizes. Serrated sides (anti-pullout texture) are also available to improve rigidity and suppress insert slipping under tough conditions.
Available grades offered for these inserts are AC5015 and AC5025S for exotic materials, EH510 and EH520 for titanium alloy and H10 for nonferrous materials.
