Measurement is an integral component in precision machining. CNC machined parts must be inspected, and equipment for that includes micrometers, calipers, gages and coordinate measuring machines.

Big Daishowa has added two upgrades to its Base Master series of precision touch sensors, including an LED indicator and a side handle for maneuverability. These measuring devices are used to determine workpiece offsets and tool length. The first upgrade spans the series lineup and replaces a single LED indicator with a 360-degree light, making it easy for operators to see contact from any orientation, the company says.

L.S. Starrett Co. says its DataSure 4.0 is an advanced wireless data collection system for acquiring precision measurement data that features excellent range and data security, multiple gateways, compact size and high speed. The DataSure 4.0 System operates on wireless networking technology that uses short-wave radio frequencies to interconnect cell phones, computers and wireless electronic devices, enabling much faster speed, greater bandwidth and longer range for higher data throughput.
Rego-Fix’s 3D-EdgeMaster precision centering device is developed to provide shops with process reliability and improved production quality. The company says the measuring technology is shock and splash proof in accordance with IP 67 regulations, and the mechanism is protected by a predetermined breaking point in the ceramic probe insert.
Sunnen’s PG-700/800 Series bore gages are well suited for fast, simple, economical process control in lean manufacturing environments, combining accuracy with a shop-hardened, all-mechanical design, the company says. And the company’s leasing program enables shops of all sizes and production runs to have this precision in-line measurement for parts that are honed, ground, bored, reamed or drilled.
ViciVision’s Prima optical measurement series for turned parts is designed to simplify measurement. The company says it reduces programming learning time by 30%. It is also designed to transform part measurement by providing a more objective measurement system. The Prima optical measuring machines can streamline the process by simplifying steps, with no need for an operator manual. It features “Vivian,” a programming assistant to guide users step by step through the measurement process.

Emuge-Franken has expanded its thread gaging solutions to include a line of thread ring gages, which includes UNC and UNF go and no-go ring gages, in addition to metric and metric fine go and no-go ring gages for a total of 152 new gages. Thread gages can be used to safely and economically control the production process, enabling users to quickly recognize size and form deviations, and weakened or unfit threads, the company says.
Renishaw’s NC4+ Blue noncontact tool setter has been updated to feature an ultracompact design and is now available in four sizes, with operating gaps ranging from 55 mm to 240 mm. Measurement repeatability has also been improved across the range, now down to ±0.5 microns on smaller separations. The company says it offers improved machining accuracy, featuring blue laser technology and improved optics. The tool setter is said to deliver significant improvements in tool measurement accuracy.

Mitutoyo America Corp.’s MiStar 555 CMM with the PH20 5-axis probe system is designed to provide enhanced measuring capability, increased feature access and a threefold throughput improvement. The system combines the MiStar three-sided open architecture, wide accuracy-guaranteed temperature range, environment-resistant absolute scale and all-in-one space-saving design for an improved coordinate measuring machine, the company says.
