Increasing economic optimism makes it a great time to reconnect with the precision machining industry to discover the latest technology and trends at the Precision Machining Technology Show (PMTS) 2021 set for August 10-12, 2021, in Cleveland, Ohio, at the Huntington Convention Center. PMTS brings it all together in one place with the newest product technologies and process innovations to help you make your business more efficient and productive.
Production Machining wants to help kick off your research with a series of PMTS Product Previews. In this collection, we’re taking a look at multipurpose machining centers, including custom rotary transfer machines for medium/high volumes; multitasking machines with a range of spindle configurations and tool magazine sizes with auto tool change capability; a turn-mill offering an oil-cooled turret; and more.
Before you go to the show, don’t miss PMTS show highlights in Derek Korn’s latest column. Look for more PMTS Product Roundups and individual product highlights in our extensive online PMTS Preview Section and don’t forget to register for the show.

Gnutti Transfer SpA designs and makes rotary transfer machines based on customer needs for medium/high-volume production. The company develops an efficient transfer machine for a part or families of parts. Its vertical integration enables it to provide custom solutions, process advantages and production cost savings.
Tsugami/Rem Sales, North American importer of Tsugami machine tools, offers the Tsugami TMA8F six-axis turn-mill equipped with a 60-tool magazine. It has the ability to perform full five-axis simultaneous machining to machine complex parts complete in a compact, flexible machine tool design. The machine can perform a full range of operations, including CNC milling, drilling, tapping, compound angle work, turning, boring and threading in a single setup.
Mazak Offers Multitasking Machines for High-Volume, Small Parts Applications
Mazak Ez Series multitasking machines for medium to high-volume, small parts applications include QT-Ez 12MSY with a small footprint and the VC-Ez 20 machining center with a range of spindle configurations and tool magazine sizes with auto tool change capability.
The Eurotech Forza turn-mill offers three different bed lengths ranging from 400 to 1,100 mm and a bar capacity up to 3.23". It features a rigid boxway, hand-scraped casting and no belts or pulleys while accommodating live tools weighing 24.5 lbs and cutting at 12,000 rpm. Live tools are driven by a 15-hp motor delivering 75 Nm of torque. Other features include an oil-cooled turret and integral spindle motors.
Based largely on customer feedback, the Davenport Hybrid Machine, introduced at PMTS 2017, has been updated with various enhancements. One is a three-station backworking axis, a CNC-programmable axis enabling operations such as single-point turning, boring, broaching, threading, contoured grooving, drilling and rigid tapping all using standard tooling. A second is a servo-driven pickoff spindle that is programmable in .0001-inch increments and offers a rapid traverse rate of 1,000 ipm to pick off hex and other irregular shapes.
CNC Screw Machine Offers Machining Speed, Versatility
Absolute Machine Tools offers the Lico LNT51S-S4 multi-slide series of CNC screw machines, which the company says is an alternative to conventional CNC lathes and CAM-operated screw machines. This series of 11-axis CNC screw machines, which features multiple overlapping slides, is said to meet or exceed the machining speed, quality and versatility of cam-driven machines, can use as many as five tools simultaneously, and each slide is capable of full 2-axis, servo-controlled travel.
